Photo essays tell a story in images and words.
With 90% of the data transmitted to the human brain being visual, we humans process information better visually than by any other means. And not only can we make sense of an image in just 13 milliseconds--we have a more emotional response to a picture than we do to text, according to science.
Yet some short text accompanying a photo can add a whole other layer of meaning. And there is nothing like a pithy quote to encapsulate the essence of what it means to be human. Quotes can often boil down complex ideas into a powerful observation. Or they can present an elegant, fresh way of looking at something we may have taken for granted.
Here at People Are Culture, our stories celebrate our unique differences and shared humanity. Culture in all its myriad manifestations is relevant to each and every one of us, and yet we each have a uniquely personal point of view. Our "What is Culture?" Photo Essays series offers a window on the human experience, in all its multifaceted magnificence!
