Have you ever heard of “el wim” (not sure if that’s how it is spelled)? I lived in the surrounding areas of Retalhuleu for 2 years and that was the most common ghost story I heard besides la Llorona. I heard stories from friends and colleagues who had been visited by el wim that it is a shadowy shapeshifter-type spirit that can often takes the form of a cat or dog. One of my friends said it landed on his tin roof and walked in the shape of a cross all night until he saw it jump off the roof. I have not heard or seen anything about this spirit on the internet, but I have been intrigued by it ever since my experiences in Guatemala. Please email me if you find any information on it!
